Mathilde knew she wanted to be a consultant when she joined Columbus. She loves interacting with customers, and this role has allowed her to understand their expectations while also supporting her personal development.

How it started

In August 2021, she joined the Columbus Young Professionals Programme. After "graduating," she started as a Business Consultant within the Solution Optimisation team in Denmark. Focusing on security, integration, and retail— which may sound like a mouthful— meant she was responsible for ensuring everything was secure and optimised for customers.

"The opportunity was not just based on my previous role and experiences but also my interests," says Mathilde.

"The Young Professionals Programme has been an invaluable experience for me. It has given me the chance to network, collaborate across teams, and build lasting relationships with peers from different backgrounds."

Becoming an expert

Just over a year later, in November 2022, Mathilde moved to a new team: Columbus Global Security and Access Management within our Dynamics business line.

"It has been an exciting transition," she says. "This move has allowed me to specialise in a specific area. I can deep dive and gain expert knowledge within my field of work."

Mathilde’s experience highlights the importance of staying agile and informed in today’s fast-paced business world.

She continues, "Customers expect us to engage with them proactively. Their goal is to stay ahead of the competition, and as a digital advisor, they rely on me to stay informed about the latest trends and industry changes. This helps them make well-informed decisions that benefit their business."

Not locked in a box

One of the things Mathilde loves about working at Columbus is the flexibility it offers. If she ever wants to return to working in Retail and Integration, that door remains open.

"I like being a consultant at Columbus because I’m not locked in a box. If I want to improve or change paths, there are plenty of opportunities to explore."

Combining knowledge and skills

Trust is key. Having knowledge and skills is important, but customers also need to feel connected to Mathilde as a person in order to trust her decisions and opinions.

Her biggest learning at Columbus has been how to be both professional and relatable. Customers don’t just need an expert—they need someone they can connect with on a personal level. Striking the right balance between professionalism and empathy has been essential.

She has also realised the importance of creating a strong first impression. Customers are more likely to trust her decisions if they feel a genuine connection. Ultimately, Columbus has taught her how to blend expertise with human connection to build lasting, trust-based relationships.

What a learning curve!

Professionally, Mathilde’s learning curve has been steep—but incredibly rewarding.

Early on, there were many new areas to explore, but as time has gone on, her focus has become more specialised. There are constant discussions about upskilling and staying ahead of industry requirements. Her manager and other leaders are highly supportive, always encouraging development and providing the time and tools needed for growth.

"I see Columbus as a land of opportunities. The customer interactions, global peers, and opportunities to learn new skills and tools have contributed to my growth—both personally and professionally," says Mathilde.
